Lost anothe pound
Have a smoothie thing for a breakfast.
And I am going to do 5 hours of hiking with Joelle.
Ideas:
1) go for a hike out in nature
2) get a healthy snack somewhere (but i don't want to use food as a reward)
3) buy myself a book
4) go and sit by the ocean and enjoy the ocean
5) draw a picture for myself celebrating how special I am
6) make a special piece of jewelry for myself
7) have a "spa day" or at least a spa half day where I do a bunch of things to take care of myself.
8) download some songs on itunes
9) take a fun exercise class that i haven't tried before
10) go play with cute animals somewhere ? (not sure where I could do this but it sounds like fun)

trying to eat more veggies, ate turkey and veggies with an egg for dinner and a smoothie (more than i wanted to eat at once... wanted to skip the smoothie but i was just hungry... exercised a lot today with gardening and a walk and tai chi and yoga and everything. i probably should have brought water with me to gardening, if i had been well hydrated i might not have been so hungry at dinner time.
i had kitcheree and salad for lunch went out for lunch with my dad and susan.

Losing weight has definitely been a 2 steps forward, 1 step back battle for me, and I feel like I have to devote effort to it CONSTANTLY. and it seems like any tiny thing can completely set me backwards. for example, staying up too late wednesday night. i went to the 8 oclock class because I didn't have my car so i had to go with my friend and that is when he goes and then he ran errrands afterwards and i didn't get to sleep till 11 so then i was hungry and i didn't have energy to exercise and i wanted to eat more...

Great Progress
I have class again at 12 after 8-920 am. It felt good after a smoothie and an egg and I ready to bike up the hill to class. It took 7-9 minutes.
After class got out at 12:50 I went over to the track and ran/jogged 4 laps. (1 mile) I want to take it easy but it felt so good to try out the track after not doing that kind of exercise in so long.
Then instead just going home on my bike I biked down through town to the marsh and looked at some birds and the humboldt bay. I suprised myself and it was good feeling. Now if I get myself awake at 6:30 to run a while before class at 8am. That would be a miracle. But it is nice to feel so awake.
Made 2 frozen portabella veggie burgers 200C and frozen veggies (green beans, corn, carrots, and edamame) 90C with chula hot sauce.=290C
Talked to my nutrition friend and she said to make a cleansing soup use kale, celery, lentils, parsnips, tomatoes...
I biked to my two double volunteer meetings and brought a friend.
I decided to bike out to the farmland behind my house to look at the full moon. 3.6 miles each way
So by the end of the day I walked but mostly biked 15.2 miles and ran one mile. That I achieved 15.2 miles today. Which is above and beyond what I said I the past I would be in pretty good shape if I did 10 miles a week....but each day would be better..one day at time.
My dinner was a potatoe 156C with some goats gouda 1oz, 1 cup of the veggies same as lunch 60C, onion 1oz 4C, 1/3C of avocado 80C, can of tuna 4oz's 140 C.=520C for dinner is much better than last night!
245? + 290C + 520C= 1055C+egg78C= 1133C
Wow I cut my calories in half. And exercised a bunch. I am thinking this is a lot easier when you are conscious of the amount.
Listening to chakra music to put me to sleep.

Welcome Jillian!
Ok now for me.
I woke up this morning around 158 - 158.5
so today i am going to get the dharmas scramble for breakfast... and maybe make a big scramble myself for lunch at home. and then for dinner? I'll buy some soup and cook some veggies and mix them in (and some meat?) or maybe have that for lunch. I would rather not eat the packaged stuff so maybe I can make a big pot of my own soup and freeze it soon.
as for exercise... I would love to go to a nice long yoga class this AM but I have to go pick up my car. SO, I guess I will go for breakfast this AM and then... hopefully make it to victor's 12:30 class. maybe I can also get a cheap massage. I would really like a massage... Umm... I think it would also be good for me to go on a looong walk on westcliff kind of get the cobwebs out and meditate. and then dance class tonight. Like I said it would be nice to have new shoes... I might try and check out Lady Food Locker while I am near the mall, just to see what they have.

It has to begin sometime it will be nice to have support.
I took some picture of my side and front profile since you keep saying my belly looks better than yours. But I need to ask you if it is is ok to post them ;)
Thought I should take a picture like the diet ads.
Ok I did not eat breakfast until 11:30 when I got a break from my 10am business marketing class. I got a an apricot low glycemic bar thing 322C. http://heartthrives.com/
For lunch I came home at 1:30 and made chili 200C and potatoe 156C http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-potatoes-microwaved-cooked-skin-flesh-i11368. I also ate an egg 78C http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-egg-whole-i1129. Mixed greens salad 15C http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-earthbound-farm-mixed-baby-greens-i87252 with olive oil 80C and balsamic dressing 20C. Walnuts 230C http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-planters-walnuts-i102680 and blueberries 27C http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-blueberries-i9050.
=1128 So I was not doing bad after lunch time. It is good to know that baked potatoes are not real calorific. Walnuts have too many calories!
Dinner - I order takeout salmon fish 185C tacos90C with rice107C and refried beans 237C. And tortilla chips 2oz/240C!
=1987c
Drinking lots of water now.
I did ride my bike to school but that is only 2 miles. I walked around up hill more than usual. Other than I need an exercise plan. And one I fit into my schedule!
I want to go back to this...I was probably around 155.
This is what I look like: about 40 more pounds later:

i guess it's better than over eating tubs of Ben and Jerry's for my health... but i wish my mind felt better. i think i would definitely feel worse if i had eaten a lot of ice cream because my self esteem already feels bad and i know it would be worse if i had eaten like crap.
exercise is a good way to deal with sucky emotions because then you can feel good about yourself for exercising. even if you had bad things happen to you at least you have the exercise in your life and that is a good thing.
i guess eating healthy is the same thing, cooking healthy food for yourself is very nurturing.
relationships are really hard and they can definitely be rewarding but i don't know if this is something i can handle. maybe i just can't handle dating right now, emotionally. i thought i could but maybe i should set a time limit, like 3 months or something for until i date again... i don't want to introduce more mood fluctuations.

I was craving chinese food (still) so I made a healthy version at home from a recipe Maria gave me with healthy buckwheat noodles and steamed chicken and bok choy. it cut the craving and was waaay healthier.

Now that I am down to 160 I definitely don't want to go any higher than this and ideally keep dropping to around 150. According to a website I looked at before my ideal weight is around 144 (or lower) it would be nice to get down to that. I think i just need to move around more and work on my eating habits. I am going to try and get more exercise.
Anyways, hope you are well and I am thinking of you! :)

sometimes i have trouble getting to sleep right away... so i stay up later than i want to on my computer. i have trouble keeping the house as clean as i want to and that makes me anxious too... then this morning i woke up earlier than i wanted to... i was anxious because my internet was out. it's also been hard having my foot messed up but it is SO much easier than last time, i think these blister pads just make a huge, HUGE difference. i have been able to walk pretty easily which i could not do at ALL before. it was like being crippled but this time i can. today i am going to do some aerobics. the weather is rainy which is a little isolating. Lea is having a dance party tonight so I will go to that and get some dancing exercise there but it's a little odd too because the dancing probably won't really get going until later in the evening and then i should go home and get to sleep. but i might try and take a nap this afternoon so i can stay a little later... i woke up at 5 this morning though so i need some sleep.
i have been working on trying to eat healthy too, i just ate a big salad and oatmeal for breakfast today... a birria burrito last night... that's some issues too with being hungry right before bed because not eating enough earlier, so i need to change that and start eating earlier.

It is easier than cooking fish, maybe not quite as nutritious I'm not sure... But certainly a lot easier.
Could you give me the recipe for the coconut and brussels sprouts?
I found this recipe online from a nutritionist who works for new leaf:
Curried Red Lentil Soup
1 Tablespoon coconut oil
1 yellow onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1-inch piece ginger, minced
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
1 teaspoon curry powder
dash cayenne (or more if you like it spicy!)
2 cups dry red lentils
4 cups vegetable stock
2 cups water
1 15-oz can coconut milk
1 bunch lacinato kale, sliced
1/2 cup fresh cilantro, minced
juice from 1/2 lemon
salt and pepper to taste
Heat oil in a large saucepan. Add onion, garlic, ginger, celery and carrots and sauté for 3-4 minutes. Add curry powder and cayenne and cook for one minute. Add lentils, stock and water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes or until lentils are tender. At this point, stir in coconut milk, kale and cilantro and heat for 5 minutes or so until kale has wilted. Now, the fun part–tasting! Add juice from half a lemon and a sprinkle of salt and pepper and taste. Does it need something? If so, first, add more lemon juice, then and salt/pepper as needed and serve!
It looks like a good recipe and she said you can use canned lentils if you are in a hurry. Nice soup for if it gets cold and rainy later this week... You could even add sausage although it might be too rich with the coconut milk... Maybe could make it with coconut water and sausage... hmm... not sure... or some kind of lean meat...
it is from "chef jenny brewer" who like i said works for new leaf.
:)
I was at 158 before Jil came to visit... so I just have to lose one more and then I'll be back there. And then I want to lose 8 more after that and get down to 150. Still, it just feels so good to see the numbers going down :)
and of course feels great to break the 160 barrier. sigh.
maybe in a couple months I'll be posting about how I broke the 150 barrier :)
I am thinking about biking over to Kelly's and getting a little scone to eat with breakfast I guess to celebrate and stuff.
I went on a "date" last night with someone from craigslist and he ate a scone with the tea we ate. I guess it made me have a craving for scones. Just a small one would probably be ok.
Lea and I are thinking about going up to San Francisco today for a Salsa class. I'm a little nervous about it... I'm not sure if I'm going to go or not. I am trying to avoid anxiety triggers because I think they release a lot of cortisol into my system and make me either gain weight or hold onto weight. or make me crave junk food... for example maybe i'm anxious about SF and that's why i'm craving scones...
but i hate to dissapoint Lea, it was my idea to go in the first place so it would be kind of lame to back out last minute.

lost 3 of the pounds i gained since jil visited! now I only have 2 to go and I'll be back at "square one" :)
I think a lot of it was bloating from too much salt and carbohydrates. I have been eating less carbs and so dropped some of the water weight and ate a little less salt yesterday and I think that helped.
Also I exercised a ton yesterday (danced extra at the palomar... lea came with me) and did other stuff too, gardening etc.
I am also back on my plan of not eating after 6:30 which I think is definitely a good idea, i just have to make sure to get enough food early in the day so I don't over-indulge.
The other day I ate a whole burrito late at night (around 10) because I hadn't eaten enough during the day... I definitely don't want that happening again... (I want to be serious about this no food after 6:30 rule) so I have to make sure to eat a big lunch and a biggish meal around 5.
it is hard because a lot of salsa events happen in the evening... like last night at the Palomar we stayed out dancing until 10, and it was super fun. the frestyle dancing happens after 9 and I danced with some great dancers and some of my favorite people to dance with... that's the kind of thing that I don't want to cut out of my life completely. not only is it great exercise but it's also super fun.
however i know it is really great for my bipolar to have a regular sleep-wake cycle so if i could be home every day at 8 and in bed by 9 every night that would be ideal. however it is so hard to say no to salsa... i think i did get enough sleep last night, i did some relaxing yoga before bed which was good i think and then I woke up at 8 this morning...
and the 3 lb weight loss feels really good. i can't attribute it just to the salsa though.
i have also been eating eggs for breakfast which i think are a really good diet food. they protein is filling and keeps you full longer and doesn't make you retain water. i think carbs can really make you retain water and just in general "weigh you down" make it harder for your body to process things... i think whole grains are cool, i guess when i say carbs i mean those really refined ones like white pasta and white bread... they had this really delicious white bread at treebones with this delicious oil and vinegar dip with all these herbs from their garden mixed in and i couldn't stop eating it... i'm so glad to be home where i can limit my access to stuff like that. i think i saw an article about eating out without gaining weight, maybe i can link to it here.

I stuffed myself with water yesterday and I think it helped me process the carbs I ate on vacation "carbo-HYDRATE" they make you hold on to a ton of water and bloat. plus i ate a lot of salty snacks like jerky and pretzels and sesame bars on the trip that jil had bought for backpacking. so I had to drink so many glasses of water to flush all of that salt out of my body and reduce the bloat. it didn't help that i am PMS ing right now too so the peak in anti-diuretic hormone is also making me hold onto water. drinking all the water i can stand will help me not bloat. it sounds anti-intuitive but it's true.
so now i am just going to focus on doing my own grocery shopping, cutting back on the salt to help with bloat, drinking a TON of water, getting exercise, doing my gardening at my house, keeping my bauhinia alive, and taking care of my yard, thinking about getting a new psychiatrist, cleaning my house, keeping my kitchen clean (this is part of losing weight)
i went out on a "date" sort of with this guy orion... we got tea after dance class. it was pretty fun. but stressful.
anyways my plan for today is...
yoga class at 8:45... i have an appt with jennifer at 11:30 but i am going to talk to her because i made an appt with a new psychiatrist on the 18th, so i have to bring that up with her...
then a walk on westcliff later or i might go to the gym on 41st that lea gave me a trial membership for. it is kind of cloudy now if the weather stays like this it might be nice to work out in the gym.
I could go in the steam room and the sauna and really squeeze out the rest of the salt.
anyways...
best of luck in losing weight! keep on posting....
and exercising.

i ate this really rich food the night before that a pasta dish... and eating a lot of bread. so if i go back to not eating those refined carbs i should be able to lose some more weight faster because i won't need to carry as much water to digest it.
it has just been hard having jil here because she is not a very healthy eater and she has gained a lot of weight over the past year (about 30 pounds) because of bad eating habits and i am so easily influenced by people around me... it's mean to say but i'm really glad that she is leaving today. i can't wait to get back into better habits.
i kind of just want to say i don't want to go on any more vacations or have any more houseguests ever again but that's not very fair... i don't know.
